THE OTHER MCBRINE

THE OTHER MCBRINE

By his own admission, the elder McBrine still gets a great buzz every Saturday afternoon in the Donemana Colours.  Now in his 25th season of senior cricket, there can be few more popular cricketers in the North West, and none more committed.  At 43, Roy has long since bowed to the brilliance of his younger brothers, although his own outstanding performances would merit the limelight in any less exalted company.

TRUE SPORTSMAN

Donemana may not be the tower of strength they were several years ago, but within North West circles, they remain the team to beat.  Their domination of local cricket has produced an amazing nine successive league championships and several cup victories on the way.  Much of the credit for this outstanding performance has deservedly gone to the McBrine twins James and “Junior”, but many opponents will rate elder brother Roy just as influential.  It is a fitting tribute to one of the game’s true sportsmen, and one who still holds traditional values dear to his heart… “If there’s one thing which disappoints me most in the modern game, then it’s the decline in sportsmanship in recent years. A lot of players don’t seem to enjoy the game now, and there’s not so much socialising after matches.”
