The Northern Knights, the Northern Cricket Union's (NCU), interprovincial team has landed a major three-year sponsorship deal, it was revealed yesterday.

The deal sees professional advisory firm PwC, sign up as the three-season gold sponsor, with additional sponsorship by Sunday Life, Connect Telecom and FSS (N.I.) Ltd.

The NCU is launching a new Northern Knights website, backed by a social media campaign to support the interprovincial series and there'll be a new fantasy cricket league competition in association with the Sunday Life.
Announcing the details at a press conference in Belfast's Robinson & Cleaver building, NCU Chairman, Andy Clement, welcomed the new sponsors aboard and stated that inter provincial cricket was heading for new levels of popularity:
"It is exceptionally exciting times for Cricket across the Northern Cricket Union and the island of Ireland in general.
"Securing PwC as our lead sponsor along with our other sponsors Connect Telecom, Sunday Life and FSS (N.I.) is a major coup for the Union that will allow the NCU to further promote and grow the game across our region and assist in the Northern Knights becoming more successful across all three formats of the Interprovincial Competition.
"I very much welcome the investment and commitment from all our sponsors and I look forward to establishing a long term working relationship with them off the field and a winning one for the Knights on it."
Since the reintroduction of interprovincial cricket in 2013, spectator numbers have increased across all three formats of the Interprovincial Series and participation levels at both adult and school levels have risen significantly.
The NCU now boasts three squads within the Northern Knights: the High Performance squad, Emerging Players squad and the Junior Knights - the pool from which the next Senior Knights squad will emerge.
Confirming their gold sponsor position, PwC Northern Ireland regional chairman Paul Terrington, said:
"Cricket is enjoying a renaissance throughout Northern Ireland; the sport is recruiting a new generation of supporters and players and the growing number of spectator during the 2013 season confirms the trend.
"As the region's leading graduate recruiter, we are keen to see the sport flourish in schools and colleges across Ireland and our sponsorship support will help deliver this objective.
"PwC is delighted to support the Northern Knights and committed to three seasons of great sport that will hopefully bring some trophies back to the Northern Knights trophy cabinet."

The Northern Knights will be hoping to follow up on their success in the one day competition last year with further success across the three competition formats in 2014.

As part of the T20 interprovincial series, the NCU will be hosting a Family Fun Day at Comber on the 13 July when the Northern Knights will play both the North West Warriors and Leinster Lightning.

Speaking at the launch, Captain of the Northern Knights, Andrew White said:

This gives us the opportunity to develop our brand of cricket in the interprovincial series and I believe we are putting together the right ingredients to develop cricket in the NCU for the coming years."
