Resting at home

Up early on Christmas Eve and just read the editors letter to Santa - brilliant, hilarious and just the thing to get me going on the last shopping day before the big day.

Can I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and let's hope that the cold weather we are getting is a sign that maybe a warm and dry summer is on the way.

Now that would be the one thing I would ask Santa for...

Clarence

Good call for Ian Callender. He's very much a taken for granted guy but he puts many hours into getting our sport publicity. It's far more than just a job to Ian.
PLOH for President ? I think he would see that as demotion. On our little cricket tours to England ( McCormick, McFadden, Clement, Law, McCombe, O'Hara ) he asks to be referred to as God.

Happy Christmas to everyone.

PS,Clarence my weight loss is now at 3st 5lb. I can't wait for the day when I'm called a" thin useless B******"

Clarence, I shall second your excellent Christmas Santa wish list! Brilliant!

And while I'm here, may I personally thank Arthur Bowron of Templepatrick Cricket Club.
Some may remember a couple of months ago I asked here on the forum if anyone could help me with some info. on an old photo of my Grandad Boomer (Orr 1930).
I had given up hope of hearing anything and then out of the blue yesterday evening, Arthur phoned me up and had very kindly taken the trouble to research the Picture of my Grandfather and some of his cricketing colleagues, who had won the McMullen Memorial Cup,playing for Hydepark Cricket Club,Mallusk.1930.

Thanks again Arthur, you have given my father and I a lovely Christmas present and we shall follow up on your reseach in the new year. Thanks again Vic. (Caleb Boomer).

Thanks Ed on clearing up the CI point.
Sound rather exciting at Moylena then with new facilities. Added to Templepatricks new practice facilites and new wickets going in and Carricks new drainage and the upgrade of Mallusk - could the Antrim area be the future for cricket?
All these new facilities should improve that standard and increase interest in cricket in the area.
Anyone got an idea on the senior cup - shame if there is no sponsor.

Muckamore will play at home in the second half of the season assuming the weather is ok and we get a good grass covering on the six new clay pitches. No games will be played on those pitches in 2010.
All fixtures for all four teams have now been arranged and we are grateful for the co operation from the other clubs. The big challenge is for our own players having to put up with every game being away in May and June and the obvious effect on bar takings.
I think this will be a small sacrifice if we can get international standard pitches to compliment the setting of the ground as well as the planned new practice area.

reference the Muckamore pitches - I would congratulate all those involved in gaining the DCAL finance to proceed with the work. I suppose that we were due something back after 139 years! I understand that there was a sod-cutting ceremony last week with Nelson McCausland in attendance. If anyone from the club has any pictures I'm sure the Ed. would post them. P.S. Noel - I'm not Michael! He takes after his mother while I would be mote tactful!!! Just a wee aside but I note that the "Secretary's report" has been removed from the Ballymena cricket website!

A Happy Christmas & New Year!
To all on the forum and to the Editor, hope Santa brings everyone plenty of presents.

Clarence your book, A History of Cricket In Ulster, was recommended to me, by a senior N.C.U. official at a fixture meeting last week,so I'm expecting to find it under the tree on Christmas morning.(If Mrs Jons remembers!). Cheers Vic.

has there been a new sponsor for the NCU senior cup yet?
Also I see that CIYMS have signed 2 overseas players - how can this be? I thought that clubs could only have 1.
Also, how will Woodvale, Muckamore and Templepatrick fare with no home ground in 2010?

Response

Bryan
One of the players joining CIYMS holds an Irish passport and is therefore considered a 'local' for registration purposes.

Michael,
Hmm!
NIACUS is currently very well tuned into all the aspects which should and will enhance NCU cricket, and also umpiring within the NCU region.
Best regards

Was wondering if there was anything discussed at the umpires meeting held this week. I'd say there are a few waiting to see how Noel McCarey et al set the stall out on the discipline front.

Your little picture beside the 'Umpires in the Thick of it' story reminds me of the Story John Elder tells of sharing a room with a NW umpire about to make his debut (the umpire that is!) How he woke very early to find the umpire in 'field attire' practising his 'out' in front of the mirror in a variety of styles and with varying degrees of flourish. His other story of another room-mate, the bath and the chambermaid I'll leave to John himself.
