PS I edited point 4) myself
Even in the haze of the red mist it wasn't worth saying.
Re Paul Stafford
Just for the record Danny is my real name!
Colin Latham
1) Fair play to you. You have come on here to have a rant but at least you had the courage to use your own name. (you can now expect a lot of uptight outrage from NCU follower or Interested Observer or Danny or Mark or whoever etc)
2)Not former NCU players, former Cliftonville players.
3)What have I to say sorry about? If someone comes on here to criticise my bowling I think it is fair enough to enquire if he ever faced it. Would you not agree?
5)Sorry if you didn't enjoy my articles. They are meant for people with a sense of humour. My advice would be, don't read them.
6)You are right. I don't remember you.
7)I'm sorry I can't say anything without a sarcastic comment. By the way you should try 'Spell-Checker' it's reely grate.
Re Paul Stafford
You have certainly kept me amused over the last few days, it really is wonderful to see that the old forumite staple of, "I don't remember playing against you in Senior cricket", quote has not died a death. It has even inspired me to go and read your column on the other channel, regretably it wasn't quite as funny.
From what I can see the boys at Cliftonville are all fighting really hard to keep their club going despite the obsticals being placed in their way. To their credit they seem to be suceeding, even better they seem to be doing so with a smile on their faces.
One wonders if simply holding your hands up and saying sorry without a sarcastic comment has ever crossed your mind.
Just to save you any hassle trawling through your obvious extensive lists of former NCU players you wont remember having played against me either.
Danny - I take it you were pissed on £2.50 then in the good old days!!
Just looked at the 5 day forecast. Pretty brutal. Lets hope it is wrong as it does promise to be a belter. Instonians were very impressive in stuffing us (CSN) last Sunday and I was impressed by their self belief and desire on the pitch and they deserve to lift some silverware this year. Good luck to them (as much as it pains me to say it as a Methody old boy). I reckon you will see a pretty determined bunch from Comber who will be out to prove their doubters wrong. I doubt they will have lost 3 from 4 this decade and 4 from 5 is unlikely. If I was a bookie it would be 4/6 North Down, Inst 7/4 (I am not though). Anyways, lets hope the sun comes out and a good game unfolds.
Froggy
Thanks for that and many congratulations to the Ville on their Ulster Shield win on Sunday.
PS The good old days of The Egg and 4 bottles of Red Dog for a Fiver!
Congratulations on the Cup win Danny, don't know why people get annoyed about CIYMS bringing in players from other clubs to strengthen, everyone does it. The higher a teams profile , the easier it gets.
No harm Body , old boy, wouldn't want you as my wingman, you'd snipe me down. Stew still hasn't forgiven you for that bird after the Egg in 1993!!!
ROBIN OFF TOO CHESTER FRI SO AS HOLMSY SAID MY OFFER WAS 2/1 INST + 3 PINTS IF U LOSE THATS 6/4 ? WHATS A TENNER TO A MAN OF YOUR STATURE , THINK IT WILL BE A VERY CLOSE GAME BUT IF YOU NOT CONFIDENT I WILL TAKE NORTH DOWN ???????????PS STAFFY GONE INTO HIDING FROM TELEBAN PPS WELL DONE CIYMS ON THEIR CUP WIN
jeff after the weekend hammering what about you giving me 2/1 north down
Just been brought to my attention that I have suddenly become a talking point on this forum - it has certainly livened up my lunchtime, though having read back, I'm still not sure what I have done to deserve this dubious honour.
Staffy - thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your recounting of my "hairdryer" experiment - said hairdryer might have come in handy for you in Cape Town airport if I remember correctly! You are right that many players have left Cliftonville over the years - some have even joined! Those who left have done so for various reasons - playing county cricket, retiring as a pro, more first team opportunities elsewhere not to mention leaving the country. I am pretty sure all clubs experience this.
Froggy - Dont ever remember how much you turn it being an issue? I have been known to hit the odd stone every now and again but dont see how big a difference it makes. My "not getting much a run in the 1sts these days" is more to do with my unavailability of Saturdays I would like to think. Difficult to justify walking into a team at the expense of someone else who knocks their pan in week in week out.
Danny - congrats mate on the cup. Well deserved to CI. Dont see how you could have loaded your team - surely thats what the starring system is for?
Andy K - what???
Wayne - still remember you and big Marty trying to break down my door in Durham!
PS I would like to dispel the rumour now that I was ever Froggy's "wingman" in the bot!
Cheers
Bod
Re Interested Observer
What spectator fails to mention is that CI also have a 4th XI, U15, U13, U11 and 60 kids playing kwik cricket - I suppose that is because we 'bought a 1st eleven' as you put it??
Its people like you that the NCU could do without and your jealousy. - Get a life!
PS - Froggy I remember the days you and Bod went on your saturday night chase of the girls in the Bot!
Re Minor Cup Spectator.
Considering C.I have bought a 1st eleven it would be a poor look-out if they couldn't now field a 3rd eleven. In truth if their hired guns weren't there you could say that their 2nd eleven have just won the Minor Qualifying Cup !
Re: Cup Finals
All credit must go to the groundstaff and committee of PSNI CC on making Newforge playable on saturday despite the square being under water at 8am - how many senior teams would have put that effort in to allow a 4th XI game to take place.
Well done to CIYMS 3rd XI for winning a great cup final. It was a credit to your club that so many of the club turned out to support.
Not bad for a club that 4 years ago couldnt field a 3rd XI!
I was just wondering how a club can put forward its ground for a cup final, the day it was meant to be played it was rained off and then they say that it might not be able to be played on the reserve date at their ground anymore!
Surely if a club takes a cup final they should be/are committed to the date and also the reserve date?
re Paul Stafford - think you're getting a bit "spitting the dummy" here. As someone who WAS in the sponsors tent(sic) on Sunday I would confirm that Muckamore were defeated by a much better side on the day. While the home side didn't do themselves any favours with 35+ extras. Re the CC defeat - this was a 20 over game and the result reflected the current league positions of the respective clubs. As the one who originally raised the question about their departure from Greenisland and being slapped down very vociferously by Mr. McChesney (funny how he never came back to say i was right!) I am not carrying a torch for C'ville as they are well able to do this but fairs fair.
RE Conor Breet walking - an example of "spirit of cricket" in the Academy - T,patrick game when an appeal was withdrawn over an LBW decision. Oh if everybody played the way the Kennedys play!!
