CURRIE HUNDRED LEADS IRELAND TO CRUSHING WIN OVER NETHERLANDS

4 August 2015

SEAN CURRIE scored a brilliant century to help Ireland record their second win at the European Under 15 Championships as they crushed The Netherlands by 181 runs at Rugby.

The Clontarf batsman struck 7 fours and cleared the ropes five times in a run a ball 121 as the Irish youngsters amassed a challenging total of 260 for 6 in their 50 overs.

Currie shared stands of 63 with Ian Anders (26) for the second wicket, and an impressive 166 in just 141 deliveries for the third with skipper Harry Tector.

Tector stroked six boundaries in his 68 as the Dutch struggled to contain the positive strokeplay by both players.

In reply, The Netherlands struggled from the outset, and were dismissed for just 79 in 31 overs.

Coleraine spinner Varun Chopra claimed 3 for 10, while Tector completed an all-round display by taking 2 for 5.

Pembroke left-armer Josh Little - tipped by former Ireland coach Phil Simmons as a player to watch - finished with 2 for 24, while Jack Carson (1-5) and Ian Anders (1-14) were the other Irish wicket takers.

In the day's other games, Jersey edged out Scotland by just four runs in a thrilling encounter, while half centuries from Dan Le Messurier and Nairn Gilbert, plus a five wicket haul for Jack Birch helped Guernsey defeat Denmark by 64 runs.

Ireland take on Denmark tomorrow (WED), while Scotland face The Netherlands and Jersey take on Channel Island rivals Guernsey.
