In all my years involved in cricket I have never known anything like the Kyle McCallam phenomenon. Now on a Saturday as you ring around people who you know are at your own club's other XI's matches you also ask " how many has Kyle scored today ? " or " has anyone got Kyle out yet?".
Now we have had some great professional players over the years and some fantastic local players but I can never remember anything like this.
I think that as a recognition of these performances and as a tribute to his part in the success of the Ireland team in the last ten and more years he should be named captain of the Ireland team to play Australia on 17th June.
I can't think of a more fitting way for all Irish cricket fans to pay tribute to Ireland's greatest ever cricketer and a more proud moment for his parents who have supported him every step of the way.And in recognition of the Waringstown club who have in Ivan Anderson, Garfield Harrison,David Dennison, Michael Reith to name a few have produced so many greats of Irish cricket.I know he started at Cliftonville but sine moving to the Lawn his performances have hit a new peak.
I'm sure even William Porterfield who himself has proved to be a fine Ireland player and leader would gladly play under Kyle in this game.
Regardless of how big a draw Ricky Ponting and his team may be I think that the Kyle McCallam phenomenon could add another 1,000 or so to the gate.Every club player in Ireland should want to go along and pay homage to the nice guy who became a legend.

'Belfast International'--- Today !

I could'nt make the trip myself to Scotland Andy, so that's why there hasn't been much about it on here from me.
But I believe the large touring party that did go,had a 'rare auld time' indeed and were very well looked after by their hosts and namesakes Victoria C.C. in Scotland.
Anyway it must have been a real success cause I hear talk of a tour already to Megaluff somewhere near Spain I believe !!!

Those Aussie's are some outfit alrite, they just don't except defeat,if England beat them it will take some big performances from most if not all their players.

But I'm still backing them! All the way!!!

Billy, that was a great day at Donacloney played against a sporting bunch of cricketers, but do you remember who was the umpire sliding slowing down his collar into his prisitine white coat as big Mark ranted and raved?
Also at the Factory Ground in midweek, who was Ian Shields's "runner" who ran him out before he had faced a ball? Everybody was in stitches but disappeared before the Bart got back to the changing room.

I must admit that I have been disappointed by the lack of information about Victoria's overseas tour to their namesakes in Glasgow - I know that some pedant will say that Scotland isn't overseas but they should try walking it! I know there is a posting on their excellent website but I would have wanted to see scorecards, etc. P.S. Is big Jeff offering any odds on England to win in W.I after that Aussie performance.

Vic Yes indeed they did. Rugby, football, tennis, snooker, that 'American rounders' game and the best of them all - Bob-Sleigh believe it or not! Good to see you removing the Irish Flag from your eyes and seeing the good in England. See you later this year during a game if you're lucky.

Well rested for tomorrow's game !

Jim,
I could'nt have put it better myself !

Although have to say,as it can't be Ireland,I'll be supporting England now.

Have to admit they've played really well these last few matches and I hope they can lift the T20 world-cup.
What about an England-v-Australia final that would be good with England to stuff the 'kangeroo-men' !

Anyway,I'll always have a soft spot for England ! Did'nt they invent the game of cricket after-all !!

First World Final of Summer for England

14th May 2010

Vic I suppose Ireland, by your reckoning, should be in the T20 Final? After all, they were giving England a good thrashing when the rain saved England! Broad was superb last night, again in your reckoning I suppose Boyd Rankin should be holding that MOTM trophy? LOL

Clarence,
Seeing the photo of Mark Harper brought back a funny memory of one of his first games v. North Down.
Ian Shields played his textbook forward defensive shot killed the ball stone dead at his feet, then in hockey fashion flicked the ball with the bat up into his hands and tossed it to the bowler.
Like a Tasmanian devil Mark Harper came racing in from the boundary screaming an appeal 'howszat! he hit de ball twice man howszat!'
Great embarrassment all around.
Umpire asked Doc Martin if he wished the appeal to be upheld. A firm no was the reply and at some stage later a quiet word was had in the ear of Mark Harper. Pantomime stuff!!

Big T/20 match last nite,
No...not the one out in the Caribbean but down at Lurgan Park, Victoria 2nds-v-3rds.

For a bit of fun really, but I have to say with the younger players really taking it seriously and trying to outplay eachother,it's a great way of getting everyone new to the game involved and enjoying themselves.

Well done to Greg & Matty for some constructive innovation and great to see even more new faces getting involved. Super stuff !

Although Duckley did his usual show and threw 'the stump' out of 'the pram' just because his team got beat.

Some things never change!!!!!

Clarence - the "feature" on Roger Harper reminds me of one hot Saturday afternoon at Comber when Woodvale were the visitors. Coming down from the top pitch and seeing Roger nearly cutting Rossie in two with a bullet return which was missed at the bowler's end. As you rightly say matches come & go, etc."

GRAHAM CUP

Please note that the results of all GC matches should be submitted by the Match Secretary of the WINNING TEAM, as per the regulations printed on the NCU website. Unfortunately the handbook indicates that this should be done by the home team - the latter is incorrect. Apologies for any misunderstanding, and I look forward to receiving some results - soon - please!
