james i was shocked to. i hope we don't get like north down last year who signed a load of players and only won 1 small 20/20 trophy. but huchinson is a great signing. we need an opening batsman! we opened last year with bowlers like gaz kidd ans simon harrison, who are good bats but good in the middle order. by the way Kosala Kulasekara is the pros name if you want to search him up. proof http://www.cricx.com/viewclient.aspx?ClientID=404&PlayerStatusID=1&PlayerAvailabilityID=2
Lionel Semple
It is very sad to learn of Lionel's passing and on behalf of everyone associated with the Ulster Cricketer we would like to express our sincere sympathy to Lionel's family and in particular Adrian, who many of us will always associate in tandem with his talented brother. Lionel was a fiery character who gave 110% and was up for any challenge. He played in both NCU and North-West cricket with distinction and has left a host of memories in his wake. It is sad that his life was cut so short.
Rest in peace.

To Adrian & the Semple Family - Sincere sympathy & condolences on the sudden passing away of Lionel - a massive character & competitor - gone too soon. Rest in peace. The McCrum Family
This must be a different Waringstown, not the ones who lambast other clubs for 'recruiting' players and saying their pro won't bat above 8 to give the local youngsters a chance!
Davey.
The only people I can see that helping are the Waringstown people. Two top class players. Maybe on reflection it will help Muckamore's promotion bid as Bangor would be a different proposition without Mark Hutchinson.
some news for everybody! Waringstown have signed a new sri lankian pro who is meant to play at a much higher level thank our former pro and mark huchinson and derek heasley are meant to be coming to! hope that helps everybody!
Stevie, sometimes when our firsts our short I'm called up and it can be frustrating having no umpires to officiate, I think they prioritise the games on league level; so quite often we only get one umpire or non at all!
Good one about Tommy, every club has their characters and stories to tell, Dundrum certainly seem to have plenty like ourselves. Great stuff!
Mr.Street, you just concentrate on getting the woodworm out of your new bat!! They ate a big enough hole in the middle of your old one, last season! lol
seen old vic jons in park bowling at one stump mind you he had a wet suit on that boy is keen
Vic,
In second XI your unlikely to have any offical umpires, now when you're playing in Dundrum and you're fielding, I could be persuaded, depending on the offer...
Reminds me of a story (one of many) that Tommy Curlett tells. He was in a Dundrum side and was asked to umpire. The batsman at the other end was very Boycott (or is that Rodney Hassard) like in his approach and was scoring slowly. There was an appeal and Tommy forgot himself and appealled too! Needless to say, Tommy had to give him out as he had to practice what he appealled!
Yes Greg, read that on the Derriaghy site, good luck to Jake and I'll contact our secretary (if you have'nt already)about a donation from our club.
Andy,I wish I could raise such debate whenever I post! lol! Vic junior has stolen my thunder!!!
Bye the way, where you at the Umpires & Scorers meeting at Shaws Bridge on Mon evening past. I phoned in and asked the panel their views on increasing the match fee for all umpires,as a way of retaining current members and help to recruit more new faces.
Surprisingly the 4 Senior Captains seemed unaware of the paltry amount you guys earn for a long day in the field and the panel agreed unanimously that increased remuneration was a good idea.
(And no, I'm not looking any commission!!
Just the odd 50:50 lbw decision in my favour would be appreciated if you or your colleagues are umpiring a match for Victoria next season!lol!!).
I would just like to wish my mate Jake @ Derriaghy all the best in his endeavours next year for Epilepsy Action i,m sure the training has started already check out the story on their website
Hey Vic - do you see what that wee lad started??
Overton-
As a wee nipper in short trousers I went with my adult neighbours from Florida Drive beside the Ormeau Park who comprised the bulk of Loopvale C.C. and played in the parks League in the 1960s. Teams that I remember were Overton, Ravenswood, Hillview, Oakleigh, Shorts, Hugh J. Scott's and Palmerston. I remember playing against Hillview in Falls Park!!!
A representative side was selected and played against CIYMS and Bready.
Sadly the troubles terminated the parks League. The league fixtures were a simply 4 hour game and you could bat as long as you liked with a mid-week 20 over bash as well.
Some very good players, many of whom joined NCU clubs.
