My recollections of Cliftonville are in line with Mr. Milford. In a previous life I was league secretary for Div 2 Section 2 and "Enfield" were in that section. Can anyone confirm that the Cliftonville 4ths were named "I Zingary"? I also was lead to believe that "Ulidia" was another name for "Ulster".
Alan
You just got in ahead of me with the information on Ulidia. When Ulidia folded in 1968 most of the players went on to form Cooke Cricket Club and attached themselves to the Rugby Club at that time playing at Upper Galwally.
Cooke amalgamated with Collegians in 1999 to form Cooke Collegians.
I have always regarded Cooke and Cooke Collegians as the inheritors of Ulidia. Andy might be interested to know that the new Cooke Club celebrated their formation in 1969 with a match versus Muckamore. The club has a handbell presented to them by Muckamore to mark the occasion.
Ulidia were first affiliated to the NCU in 1935 and were last affiliated in 1968.
The name was not associated with Cliftonville whose 1st XI played as Cliftonville and to the best of my knowledge the seconds played under the name - Enfield and the thirds - Dunowen.
Victoria first affiliated in 1954 by the way.
Hello Greg, how r u? Got the ballot tickets this morning.
Your maybe rite about Ulidia, but if Andy does'nt know I'm sure Gerald will! He probably played against them!!!
Oh and yea, cricket is always high on the agenda in the 'Jons' famiy house-hold!!!!
Hello Vic i think Cliftonville used that name [Ulidia] many years ago maybe Andy can confirm this.Good to see that you have the whole family involved in the Forum.
Andy,
As a matter of interest, where and at what time did Ulidia play cricket. Are we talking 20yrs ago or even way before that?
I only got into playing cricket around the 94/95 seasons, so I don't know much before then!
funny enough Vic - I was reffing a match at Ballymoney a couple of years ago and I bumped into Alistair Kyle who was home on holiday. He now lives in Scotland. Some people may remember him playing at the 'Dee at the same time as Ivan Reid, the late Trevor Sailes & co. He also played for Ulidia way way way back!! See - I am older than I look!!
Cheers Andy,
Mabye young Mr Burns knows more about local cricket than his old man here!! lol!!!
Mr. Burns - was the name "Ulidia" by any chance? There may be the odd person who can remember that far back!!

Apologies for that last post,(Mr Burns)
My 9yr old son posted that nonsense.
Hey I'm new here,Vicjons is from Victoria because i saw him with another guy from another team and bowling with him!!!
The name of the cricket started with U... {I think}.LOL
I don't recall making any reference to any individual in my earlier posting - indeed my posting was in the plural! I was referring to the fact that the NCU was highlighting an area that some umpires need to examine themselves.
Vic
I don't hold any grudges, just make sure your wearing a helmet if I ever have to bowl at you in Victoria! LOL.

Once more, you have excelled yourself in your descriptive comments regarding 'the majority' of cricketers. Alas, maybe you wrote that whilst sitting in front of the mirror. Your effluent as you describe it is not from the bull, it usually comes from a silo.

Did you see my report on the NCU AGM a page or two back, or are you huffing because I made a joke about England !!
Re English Contingent
Face Facts......the MAJORITY of local club cricketers only excercise during the winter months is pushing the button on the remote control...........thats why you see them "rolling out" like busted sofas in May ............ 2 sessions at the pre season indoor nets and the a match warm up is the extent of their preparations for the season........."BULLS EFFLUENT" must have been for sale at Tescos when you were there.
