CRICKET WORLD CUP DIARY FROM OUR MAN IN BARBADOS - 12 March

CWC 2007 Opening CeremonySunday 11th March 2007

Clarence Hiles reports from the Caribbean...

It's the morning after the night before and what a fantastic opening ceremony at Trelawny! If the cricket action matches last night's entertainment then we are in for a real treat.

And didn't it make you proud to be an Ireland cricket supporter watching our squad walk tall with the greatest players in the modern game and then hear the greatest cricketer of all time Sir Garfield Sobers officially open the tournament with the shortest and best received speech?

Now to the real action and as the supporters settle back in their cosy hotels on Ocho Rios the players have moved to Kingston and will be fine-tuned in preparation for Zimbabwe on Thursday. In between the group favourites West Indies and Pakistan will officially start the action and Ireland will get a preview of what's to follow. It's been a long journey for Irish cricket so let's all now enjoy the experience.

Meanwhile if you still fancy making the trip there's still accommodation, tickets and flights available, including the final!

Now isn't that a surprise?
