Thanks to Wylie for clearing things up. I am dismayed at P Carpenter as I can assure him that Cooke Collegians were indeed looking forward to travelling to Armagh. We are a club with pride and confidence and are not afraid to take something on. I am delighted that our 2nd XI have gone up along with Armagh and winning the league is an added bonus but let me be clear my club was quite keen to play and only the weather prevented the game from being completed. I do not know who P Carpenter is but you should simply forget about this matter and get on with things. The season is over and it was a great summer in the fact that we had opportunity to play so many games. Let me be clear I am not representing any opinion from my club. I am just angry on a personal basis at some very silly comments.
P. Carpenter is mostly correct in his summing up of the Armagh II v Cooke Collegians II match.
The only thing I would correct is that Cooke Collegians had in fact won the league and the best Armagh could have gained was to share in winning the league.
I have been saying for a long time that the voluntary re-arrangement regulations open up the possibility of a team "tactically" chossing not to play a re-arranged game if it suits them too.
(Not that I am implying that Cooke Collegians choose this option to deny Armagh a chance of a share of the league I would like to point out)
You will also notice that Armagh had another game that was voided from earlier in the season as neither they or Templepatrick contacted me to re-arrange this game and when it went over the 21 days to agree a re-arrangement I voided that game as it was made plain to me that Templepatrick were not interested in re-arranging it.
P carpenter
which part of my post isn't factual???? Did victoria , donaghadee and portadown not improve thier league position??? It cudnt be the "bunch of r€#%rds" comment as it is fact!!!! Was made to 2 of my players during a match at the end of the season one of which was my brother!!!
re. Jonathan Lyttle
The Armagh v Cooke Collegians game was not void when it was rained off on Sat. 18th September, but subject to a voluntary rearrangement as per the Union rulebook. Cooke Collegians opted to win the league by default rather than on the field but that was their perogative.
As mentioned by the editor earlier and particularly applicable to "Fair Play" and Jason Maxwell as well as Mr Lyttle, posters should stick to facts rather than opinions or accusations.
With reference to the Armagh v Cooke Collegians fixture, the game was void when it was not played on the Saturday as agreed. This should be the end of the matter and if anyone wishes to continue this debate they should consult the Section Secretary. The season is over and the results have been submitted. There are more important matters to be discussed on this forum.

Section 1 team of the year and why!
1) W Horwood (Muckamore) Never a dull moment when he bats!
2) S Johnston (Woodvale) Hits a huge ball!
3) M Hutchinson (Bangor) Superb batsmen whose team batted around him in both our games with them this season!
4) B Baguely (Muckamore) Another hard hitter and a great batsman!
5)P McCormick (Hollywood) Didn't play against him this year but consistently got runs and wickets!
6)C Boultwood (wk)(S'field) got runs along with some superb keeping!
7) A Whitcroft (Armagh) our best bowler this season and always looked like taking wickets!
8) H Doyle (Armagh) although it probably looks like I'm picking him simply because he is my brother he bowled better this season than the stats suggest , should have taken a lot more wickets and scored some valuable runs!
9) A Magennis (L'Vale) good leg spinner with an impressive quicker ball!
10)M Yeates (S'field) quickest bowler in the league and a real handful on a hard track!
11) R Bell (Bangor) swings the ball both ways and took a lot of wickets!
Definitely not the best team statistically just my opinion!
PS. In reference to the Cooke vs Armagh 2nd XI fixture who are these 'heap of de-starrings'?
Would be nice if you could put a name to your comments!
Just back from 5 enjoyable hours working on redressing the square after 4 hours of scarifing an spiking last week 30 bags soil then grass seed and fertilser and rain forecast tomorrow so have say GROUNDSMEN are the hardest working people in cricket , Tommy Curlett after another knee operation works unpaid last 40 years and fair play as im sure lots clubs take these hard working men for granted . Roll on spring
playin most of the season in 2-3 i personally think the best and nicest team to play against won the league!!!! see on the final standings teams have improved thier position with donaghadee, victoria and portadown climbing considerably and well we finished third not bad for "a bunch of retards" as we were called eah mathew???
Armagh v Cooke Match off in May due to Cup. Rearranged for 4 September -surely an earlier date in this good summer should have been found - but Armagh's pitch mysteriously unavailable, just after a heap of 1st Eleven de-starrings.If Cooke had "played the rule book" should they not have claimed the match on 4 September?
Matthew - do you mean whipped or wiped?
That's correct about Cooke. Afraid to come down and finish off the league as they knew they'd only get wipped so cried off and played the rule book!
Facts please gentlemen, not just acusations.
Indeed credit to Academy for playing the season out in 2/3; I hear Cooke Collegians didn't fancy the trip to Armagh for a league decider so played the rulebook instead.
A 'dibbly dabbly' bowler at only 43 !
Ivan I think you're right,
Andy is maybe being a little hard on himself on purpose, using a little 'reverse physicology', sign of a good skipper to give the younger bowlers on his side a little more confidence in their own ability !!!
I have to do it all the time when I'm playing and it seems to work !
Bye the way, thanks to Academy C.C. for heading down on Saturday to Lurgan Park and completing the final league fixture in div.2, sect.3 2nds-v-2nds respectively.
At such a late time in the season, the match had been already rearranged twice before, with both sides around mid-table, it could have all been too easy to call it 'quits', but not so, the game was played and a cracking encounter it turned out to be !
Thanks again lads.
I didn't pick Brian and Ralph for the reasons every one assumes. No one at Muckamore has hidden our desire to assemble a team to play Premier League cricket. We regularily played 5 teenagers who are the future of our club which hopefully will be in the Premier League for a long time to come.
No one picked Neil Gill in their team this season. Macca took 29 wickets for our 1sts and he bowled less overs than most.I haven't the figures at hand but he certainly didn't take many rabbits. He bowled ahead of our spinners most weeks and will still do a job as a seamer and skipper in the Premier League. There will be very few better prepared or motivated teams. His comment earlier in the year which upset some about him being a 43 year old dibbly dabbly bowler was him being very modest. The best over I seen bowled this season was the 4th over of our 20/20 win over Instonians when Macca bowled a maiden. Keep underestimating him please.
rob - i was trying to pick a team of players non muckamore. Jason impressed me that much this year i could not leave him off. Macca had a top season and consistently put the ball in the right area. He even played an important match winning innings with the bat against armagh.
Bags and ralph would walk onto my team if i was picking muckamore players but i was trying to give credit to other good performers in the league.
