gareth, defintely sour grapes, the decision lies with dundrum as they have no obligatoion to give you a sub fielder. In saying that i have never played in a game where a team has refused to give the opposition a sub fileder if required.

the table is getting very tight at the bottom in section 2 , as three out of the four bottom teams got a win over the weekend

Might sound like sour grapes? Catch yourself on. IT IS SOUR GRAPES. Do football, rugby, hockey, etc lend opposition a player? I think not. It up to Dundrum whether they should or not. It also puts pressure on Armagh skipper. Where do they put him in the field? Covers, slip, maybe wicket-keeper, or is he going to run from deep fine leg at the end of every over to deep fine leg. Does Dundrum give you a players who has already batted, or yet to bat. In the heat of yesterday, Should Dundrum give Armagh their best fielder or worst fielder? Where does it actually end. Dundrum made the right decision not giving you anyone. If you don't have the subs with you to back up your players, don't expect other teams to do it for you. End off story.....

gareth, sounds like sour grapes to me. I played my last game at CIYMS on sat fielding with injured back for 37 overs & its up to every club to bring subs(not sure if they allowed) i personally wouldnt dream of asking CIYMS for a fielder risking him possible injury or even worse contributing too help beat his own team.tell you one thing yous done enough BITCHING yesterday about it,the player in question chose too stay on batting when INJURED so theirfore risked more pain so then you crywolf when he changes his mind about fielding. We offered too let your scorer field&we would mark the book but you declined.not that it matters but you could have brought as sub with you (forgot you couldnt get a team last sunday). really think its petty that you try too blame Dundrum & think you be better trying too run your own club as if you check the LAWS OF CRICKET Dundrum didnt break any.ps we laid on free food in the DUNDRUM INN for yous but yous didnt turn up ah well the GRAPES were eatn.

Come on Gareth get real in today's world. Substitute fielders should be abolished. What other sport expects the opposition to provide a sub when a player is injured? And is the sub really a part of the fielding team? He's spy in the camp!
It's the most stupid thing in cricket. If a team wants to protect itself against injury it should travel with a 12th man.

Just back from a decent game at Dundrum and this might sound like sour grapes after losing an important match, but I was very disappointed with the way Dundrum decided to play their cricket. Our all-rounder David Bullick hurt his back while batting and required a runner which was no problem, but at the innings break Dundrum refused to provide a substitute to field for the clearly injured player who went on to field thirty something overs at slip in clear pain and virtually unable to move. Certainly no obligation on Dundrum to provide a subsitute under the rules, but in a sporting game I really could not believe their refusal. Maybe thats the way to go about winning cricket matches.

danny, believe me the odds should read 1/2 ciyms 4/1 dundrum 50/1 draw. but forecast very good pity that both teams have games on sunday as win lose or draw the bar takings will be down.

Michael, your not wrong i have played for quiet a while now and there is no doubt the standard of local cricket has dropped from maybe 10 fifteen years ago. But in comparison to the last few years in section 2 at least i doubt there has been a stronger league. Its a very tough league our results can vouch for that, i hope your right about us bouncing back , im sure you are right.

Taito, if it is not the strongest it could be the most competitive. A lot of older players feel the standard of club cricket has dropped in recent years and you only need to look at some clubs like yourselves, Woodvale, Ballymena, and Lurgan and accept the current team is not as strong as in former years. That said, two teams up and down every season is going to bring out the competitive streak in everyone so maybe that's why the league is so 'strong'. Anyway good luck as Downpatrick will bounce back. There's plenty of talent there.

Yes taito I was chatting with a few very experienced players who had played both section 1 and section 2 and they said that this years section 2 is the strongest they can remember. I keep saying to myself, this is a big game this weekend but they just seem to get bigger as the weeks go on. Huge weekend for us guys.

jeff, i have been doing a bit of work for a change, but i suppose the start we have had might have something to do with my silence. Long long way to go though, i was discussing it with a few boys from other teams this season and the general consensu is that this is the strongest section 2 that they can remember. Anybody agree or disagree? Big game tomorrow , that many thought would have been a top of the table game but has turned out to be top vs bottom game, cricket is a funny game

John,

Cricket wasn't allowed to be played on the Mall on a Sunday for a long time and if truth be told the Trustees probably still aren't all that keen on it but kindly facilitate us when necessary.

Some of the gallery pictures on the Lurgan CC website from their trip to the Mall on Saturday show what a fantastic setting it is for a game, unfortunately we couldn't give St. Johnston one at the weekend. The season goes on though.

Thanks for that Gareth. Someone up here had told me it was because cricket wasnt played at the Mall on a Sunday. I read on the Armagh website that their 2nds played at the Mall on Sunday and was a bit confused about the explanation of the St Johnston game. Very sporting of Armagh not to have made the guys travel from Donegall (probably 240 mile round trip!).
